The first trailer for Karate Kid: Legends introduces Li Fong, a young kung fu prodigy played by Ben Wang, and brings together two familiar mentors: Mr. Han, played by Jackie Chan, and Daniel LaRusso, played by Ralph Macchio. Sony published the trailer on April 1, 2025; its central setup is Li’s preparation for a karate competition in New York.
Who is the new martial arts hero?
Li Fong is a young kung fu prodigy who moves to New York with his mother and starts over at a new school. Ben Wang plays Li. The trailer presents him as the story’s new lead, rather than centering the film on either of the franchise’s returning martial arts masters.
Sony’s official film synopsis adds that Li befriends a classmate and her father, then draws the attention of a local karate champion. Li decides to enter a major karate competition. The studio’s trailer description focuses on his relocation, school life and training; Sony Kids Zone supplies an additional backstory detail, saying Li was uprooted from Beijing after a family tragedy.
How do Mr. Han and Daniel LaRusso fit in?
Mr. Han and Daniel LaRusso guide Li as he prepares for the competition. Han is played by Jackie Chan, while Ralph Macchio returns as Daniel. Sony describes Li as combining the two mentors’ distinct styles, making their partnership around a new student the trailer’s main franchise crossover hook.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
The setup connects the kung fu mentor from the 2010 Karate Kid film with the karate student and teacher familiar from the earlier films. Rather than suggesting that Li simply follows one mentor’s approach, Sony’s description frames his training as drawing from both.
What does the trailer establish—and what comes from the synopsis?
Sony’s verified YouTube channel published “KARATE KID: LEGENDS – New Trailer (HD)” on April 1, 2025. The trailer introduces Li, the two mentors and the competition-focused premise. Further details about the school, Li’s friendship and the local champion come from Sony’s written film synopsis, not necessarily from what the trailer itself shows.

Sony lists Jonathan Entwistle as director and Rob Lieber as writer. Its trailer description also names Joshua Jackson, Sadie Stanley and Ming-Na Wen in the cast. The studio’s promotional description calls the film a new story with action and heart; that is marketing language, not an independent assessment of the movie.
