Spoilers for Trap (2024). Cooper is arrested after his wife, Rachel, reveals that she tipped off police and drugged him. In the police van, he uses a spoke from Riley’s bicycle to pick his handcuffs—but the film ends before showing whether he escapes. There is also a brief scene during the credits, but no separate post-credits scene.
What happens at the end of Trap?
Cooper’s plan falls apart after Riley and Lady Raven escape the immediate danger at the Abbott home. He returns home and discovers that Rachel has tipped police to his presence at the concert. She has also drugged him with his own drugs. Police storm the house, tase him and arrest him, bringing the sting to a successful arrest—at least for the moment shown on screen. Variety’s ending breakdown recounts the sequence.
As Cooper says goodbye to his family, he quietly takes a spoke from Riley’s bicycle. In the police van, he uses it to pick his handcuffs. That is the film’s final image of his attempted escape. It does not show him getting free, nor does it show police recapturing him afterward.
Does Cooper escape?
The ending leaves the outcome unresolved. Cooper is in custody when he starts picking the cuffs, and the maneuver signals that he is still resourceful and dangerous. But the film cuts away before the attempt’s result is known. It is accurate to say he tries to escape; it is not accurate to say the film confirms that he succeeds.

Who tipped off the police?
Rachel did. She informed police that Cooper would be at the concert, then drugged him at home to help make the arrest possible. Her betrayal shifts the final confrontation into the family home, where Cooper’s carefully managed identity as a devoted father can no longer protect him. Warner Bros. describes the film’s premise as a sting targeting a killer who appears to be a devoted father, while Netflix Tudum’s film account likewise describes the concert as an FBI sting.
Is there an end-credits or post-credits scene?
Yes: there is a short scene during the credits. Jamie, the vendor Cooper spoke with at the concert, watches a television report identifying Cooper as the Butcher. He realizes that he unknowingly helped a killer and reacts with shock. Variety describes it as a funny mid-credits beat, and What’s After The Credits? classifies it as a during-credits scene and reports no additional scene after the credits.

The Jamie moment is a comic coda rather than a new resolution to Cooper’s escape attempt. In a July 30, 2024 interview with Gizmodo/io9, Shyamalan described a credits pause as a little extra that can color the story without being directly essential. Jamie’s belated realization extends the film’s irony: Cooper’s manipulation affected people who did not know who he was.
What does the ending mean?
Cooper’s family life is both cover and vulnerability
Cooper’s public persona as a caring father helps him move through the concert without immediately drawing suspicion. But his bond with Riley is not merely a mask. Shyamalan said that Cooper’s feelings for his daughter weaken him, calling her his “kryptonite” in the same Gizmodo/io9 interview. That is the director’s description of the character, not a requirement that every viewer interpret Cooper’s feelings the same way.

Rachel turns the safe-looking home into the trap
The final confrontation brings the police operation into the place where Cooper expects to control the situation. Rachel’s decision to drug him and alert the authorities makes the family home the point where his performance collapses. The family’s awareness of his identity and the arrest make clear that his old concealment has failed, even as the handcuff-picking beat shows he has not stopped looking for an opening.
The film invites tension without settling the escape
Shyamalan has said he wanted viewers to experience the story from Cooper’s position and feel the pull of hoping he might get away, despite knowing he is the villain. That tension helps explain why the film ends on an attempted escape rather than a confirmed outcome. The final action keeps Cooper’s danger in view; it does not tell the audience what happens next.

Film and edition details
Trap is a 2024 American film written and directed by M. Night Shyamalan. Warner Bros. Japan’s official home-entertainment listing names Josh Hartnett, Ariel Donoghue, Saleka Shyamalan, Hayley Mills and Alison Pill among the cast. Its product page gives an approximately 105-minute running time and approximately 19 minutes of video extras; both figures describe that distributor’s Japanese home-video listing, not independent measurements. Warner Bros. Japan’s product page lists a Blu-ray/DVD set released February 26, 2025, with English and Japanese audio; the Blu-ray listing includes Japanese subtitles and English subtitles for the hearing impaired.
For context, Netflix Tudum reported on March 11, 2025 that the film was streaming on Netflix in the United States at that time. That dated, US-specific mention does not establish current availability in other territories.
