Was his condition known?
No confirmed diagnosis or cause for the Italian hospitalization was provided in the report. Payne had previously announced that he had been hospitalized with a kidney infection and postponed tour dates while he recovered. That earlier illness does not establish why he later received treatment in Italy.
In a video message about the earlier illness, Payne said: “This really is the last news I want to be telling you, but I’ve been a little bit unwell recently.” He then described the kidney infection and the postponement of his tour dates. Those remarks referred to that earlier episode, not the Italian hospital report.

What happened later
Payne died in Buenos Aires on October 16, 2024, after falling from a hotel balcony, according to Argentina’s National Criminal and Correctional Prosecutor’s Office No. 14. In an announcement dated November 7, 2024, the office said three people had been charged in connection with the investigation. The announcement described charges, not convictions.
