The available information does not confirm that John Cena will open a Saturday Night’s Main Event (SNME), identify any Cena-related surprises, or establish that the show has a new set. The verified update concerns WWE’s July 18, 2026 edition at Madison Square Garden; its connection to the title’s Cena claims is unconfirmed.
What is confirmed about the July 2026 SNME?
WWE announced that Saturday Night’s Main Event would return to Madison Square Garden on July 18, 2026, the first time the event had been held in New York City since 2007. WWE said the U.S. broadcast would be exclusive to Peacock. WWE’s March 31 announcement gives the date and venue details.
WWE’s event page, published July 16, listed the following card and appearances for that edition. It said the show would begin at 8 p.m. ET / 5 p.m. PT, streaming on Peacock in the United States and YouTube internationally. These details apply to the July 18 event, not to SNME generally. WWE’s event page
- CM Punk and Cody Rhodes vs. Gunther and Sami Zayn
- Women’s tag team championship match: Paige and Brie Bella vs. Lainey Reid and Fallon Henley
- Danhausen vs. JD McDonagh in a no-disqualification match
- Bayley vs. Lyra Valkyria
- Appearances by Jalen Brunson and Roman Reigns
Did John Cena open the show?
There is no verified information here establishing that Cena opened the July 18 event, opened a segment, or was scheduled to appear. The phrase “John Cena ‘Opening’” cannot be tied to a specific dated WWE announcement or identified originating post, so it should not be treated as confirmed news about this edition.

A separate opening-video report is about the July 2026 Madison Square Garden show. Joseph Currier’s July 17 report for F4W said the video focused on WWE and sports history at the arena, including Hulkamania’s beginnings and the New York Knicks’ 2025–26 championship run. Currier quoted commentator Joe Tessitore: “For generations, this building has been the heartbeat of New York,” followed by references to championships, icons, memories, and WWE returning to Madison Square Garden. That report describes an opening package, not Cena opening the broadcast. F4W’s report
What “surprises” were announced?
No specific surprise tied to Cena was verified. WWE’s July 16 event page did announce appearances by Roman Reigns and Jalen Brunson, but those are named appearances for the Madison Square Garden edition—not evidence of additional surprise guests or a Cena-related reveal.

Did SNME get a new set?
The available July 2026 reporting establishes that the broadcast opened with a venue-history video. It does not establish that WWE introduced a new physical set. An opening video and stage or set design are different things, so the video report cannot substantiate the “new set” claim.
