In June 2026, Cassation Chamber III confirmed the dismissal of a separate drug-supply accusation against Nores. Former hotel employee Ezequiel Pereyra and waiter Braian Paiz remained accused of supplying narcotics in the latest reporting; neither was reported convicted, and no trial date had been set.
What charges were dropped in the Liam Payne case?
The February 2025 decision concerned allegations of criminal negligence against three people: Rogelio “Roger” Nores, CasaSur Palermo manager Gilda Martin, and receptionist Esteban Grassi. It did not resolve the separate drug-supply accusations against other defendants.
The Associated Press reported that prosecutors argued Nores had failed in a duty of care by leaving Payne alone while he was intoxicated. The court accepted the defense position that Nores had no legal, moral, or social duty to care for Payne and was outside the hotel at the time of the death. It also found prosecutors had not shown that hotel staff acted unlawfully or negligently by taking Payne to his room. Was Roger Nores cleared of every accusation?
Not by the February 2025 negligence ruling alone. Nores also faced a distinct accusation of supplying or facilitating narcotics. Infobae reported that an April 2025 decision dismissed that accusation and that prosecutors challenged the dismissal. On June 30, 2026, Cassation Chamber III confirmed it; Infobae said the ruling was not appealed within the statutory period. Infobae’s account says the judges found the record did not prove Nores gave Payne money expressly to obtain drugs. LA NACION reproduced a passage from the ruling by judges Pablo Jantus, Gustavo Bruzzone, and Alberto Huarte Petite: “En efecto, conforme a la prueba incorporada –y, en particular, del registro de las comunicaciones mantenidas entre el imputado y la víctima–, surge que Nores no brindó respuesta alguna al requerimiento de Payne cuando este le solicitó ‘6 gramos’ [de estupefacientes].” The quotation is Spanish court language as reported by LA NACION; it refers to the communications record considered by the judges.
Who remained accused, and what happens next?
In the latest reporting reviewed, former CasaSur employee Ezequiel Pereyra and waiter Braian Paiz remained accused of supplying narcotics. They were not reported as convicted. Infobae said their trial had no date and that authorities had requested additional analysis of seized devices. Infobae, July 19, 2026.

How the rulings fit the timeline
- October 16, 2024: Payne died after falling from a third-floor hotel balcony in Palermo, Buenos Aires. AP; LA NACION.
- February 20, 2025: AP reported the dismissal of negligence charges against Nores, Martin, and Grassi; two other defendants remained accused of narcotics supply. AP.
- June 30, 2026: Infobae reported Cassation Chamber III confirmed the dismissal of the drug-supply accusation against Nores. Infobae.
