Texts between Blake Lively and Taylor Swift surfaced in January 2026 court filings in the dispute tied to It Ends with Us. They show Lively asking Swift to consider proposed script revisions in 2023 and, a year later, sharing the film’s trailer, which used Swift’s song “My Tears Ricochet.” The filing is a party submission—not a judge’s finding—and Lively disputed how the 2023 exchange was characterized.
What Taylor Swift texted Blake Lively
The April 2023 script exchange
A January 20, 2026 filing by defendants’ lawyers quotes an April 12, 2023 exchange about proposed revisions to the It Ends with Us script. In the quoted messages, Lively referred to Justin Baldoni as “this doofus director of my movie” and “a clown,” and asked Swift for help with the revisions. The filing presents the exchange as evidence that Lively sought Swift’s endorsement of the changes.
Lively disputed that framing. Her testimony, quoted in the same filing, was: “I told her she didn’t have to, I didn’t want her to feel pressured to do that, but I hoped that she would.” She said she sent Swift the script and hoped she would read it, while making clear that she did not want her friend to feel obligated. The difference between the quoted messages and the filing’s interpretation matters: the document records a party’s arguments and Lively’s response, not a judicial conclusion. Read the January 20, 2026 filing, Document 1236-2.
The April 2024 trailer exchange
In a separate exchange reported by the Associated Press, Lively sent Swift the film’s trailer in April 2024. It featured Swift’s song “My Tears Ricochet.” Swift replied, “Wow I love how they use the song,” followed by “Welcome to hollywood Justin.” The Associated Press reported on the messages and the hearing context.

What the messages do—and do not—establish
The texts illuminate two interactions between Lively and Swift: a request related to script revisions and a reaction to the film trailer. They do not, by themselves, decide the truth of the allegations in the broader dispute or establish that a court accepted either side’s interpretation. Lively alleged harassment and retaliation; Baldoni’s side denied allegations and advanced legal arguments of its own. News coverage also reported that Baldoni’s countersuit against Lively, Ryan Reynolds and their publicist was dismissed in June 2025. ABC News reported on the texts and the parties’ positions.
Where the lawsuit stands
The case is no longer an upcoming trial: the Associated Press reported that Lively’s and Baldoni’s sides settled the lawsuit in May 2026. The settlement’s full terms are not established in the cited coverage. In an August 27, 2026 report, El País said Baldoni was ordered to pay $400,000 in legal fees. That amount is a reported ruling, not a measure of the case’s overall financial outcome. AP’s report covers the settlement and case background; El País reported the legal-fee ruling.

Why the filing’s status matters
A court filing can contain quoted evidence alongside a party’s characterization of what that evidence means. Here, the same filing that quotes Lively’s texts also includes her response disputing the description of her request to Swift. Reading those elements together avoids treating a litigant’s argument as a finding by the court.
