Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord is no longer an upcoming series: its first season premiered on Disney+ on April 6, 2026, and all episodes are now streaming there. Set after The Clone Wars, the animated story follows Maul as he tries to rebuild his criminal syndicate on Janix. Lucasfilm has also announced that season two is in the works, but has not given it a release date.
What is Maul – Shadow Lord about?
The series takes place in the early years of Emperor Palpatine’s reign, after the events of Star Wars: The Clone Wars. Maul is trying to rebuild his criminal organization on Janix, a planet Lucasfilm described as untouched by the Empire. His plans bring him into contact with Devon Izara, a young Jedi Padawan whose future has been disrupted. The story also involves Janix’s local law enforcement and Imperial Inquisitors.
Lucasfilm announced the series on April 18, 2025, describing Maul’s effort to rebuild his syndicate and the planet’s place outside Imperial control. Read the original announcement on StarWars.com.
When did it come out, and where can you watch it?
Season one premiered on Disney+ on April 6, 2026, with two episodes. Lucasfilm released two episodes each week, and the finale arrived May 4. Lucasfilm says all season-one episodes are now streaming on Disney+. Catalog availability can vary by region and change, so check the Disney+ listing where you live.

Who voices Maul, and who made the series?
Sam Witwer voices Maul. Dave Filoni created the series, and Filoni and Matt Michnovetz developed it. Brad Rau is the supervising director. The principal cast also includes:

Will there be a season two?
Yes. Lucasfilm Animation announced on April 2, 2026, that season two is in the works. The announcement did not state when it will be released. See Lucasfilm’s season-two announcement.
How many views did the first episode get?
Lucasfilm reported that the first episode received 4.1 million global views during its first seven days of streaming. That is Lucasfilm’s reported figure, not an independently audited audience measurement. Lucasfilm’s April 15, 2026 audience report includes the figure.

Lucasfilm has announced a Marvel Comics prequel set on Janix, the planet featured in the series. The announcement establishes the connection, but does not by itself identify a specific issue or edition for readers seeking a particular copy.
