Government Gangsters presents Kash Patel’s argument that entrenched officials worked against Donald Trump and his supporters. That is the film’s allegation, not an independently established finding. Patel’s confirmation-hearing commitments and the FBI’s published priorities offer a separate way to assess how its themes relate to his leadership of the Bureau.
What is Government Gangsters about?
Prime Video lists Government Gangsters as a 2024 documentary with a runtime of 1 hour and 4 minutes. The listing says it is based on Patel’s book and describes an exposé alleging that bureaucrats, government officials, and media figures conspired against Donald Trump and his supporters. M. A. Taylor is listed as director; Dan Fleuette, Stephen K. Bannon, and Kash Patel as producers; and WarRoom Films as the studio. The listing’s description is promotional framing, not independent verification of the alleged conspiracy. View the Prime Video listing. Patel’s book is the source on which the documentary is based.
What does Patel mean by “government gangsters”?
In the documentary trailer, Patel defines the term this way: “Government gangsters are the group of individuals, career bureaucrats, who have been installed by what we call the deep state into every agency and department in the United States government.” This is Patel’s characterization of career officials, not an established description of federal employees. NPR’s report on his nomination also quotes Dartmouth political scientist Russell Muirhead describing the deep-state conspiracy theory as the idea that government officials are hostile to a president and seek to obstruct or disempower him and his movement. That is Muirhead’s interpretation, distinct from Patel’s own framing.
How does the documentary relate to Patel’s stated FBI agenda?
The film reflects Patel’s view that institutional resistance and accountability matter. It is not an official FBI strategy document. During his Senate confirmation process, Patel wrote that the FBI “must be independent” and that investigations should be brought only “where there is a proper basis under the facts and the law.” These are commitments he made in written answers to senators, not proof by themselves of how every subsequent FBI decision was made. What are the FBI’s published priorities?
The FBI identifies Patel as its director and says he became the Bureau’s ninth director on February 20, 2025. In testimony dated May 12, 2026, the Bureau listed four priorities:
- Crush violent crime
- Defend the homeland
- Rebuild public trust
- Ensure fierce organizational accountability
The thematic connection to the documentary is strongest around trust and accountability: the film alleges that entrenched officials undermined elected leadership, while the Bureau says it aims to rebuild trust and hold its organization accountable. That overlap does not establish the film’s allegations as true. The FBI’s FY2027 budget testimony gives the Bureau’s stated priorities and reports its own performance figures.

What results did the FBI report?
In that May 12, 2026 testimony, the FBI reported the following 2025 results. These are the Bureau’s figures; the testimony is not an independent audit:
- 34,000 violent-crime arrests, which the FBI described as a 112% increase from 2024.
- 1,800 gangs and criminal enterprises disrupted, described as a 210% increase from 2024.
- More than 2,250 kilograms of fentanyl seized, which the FBI said could represent 178 million lethal doses.
What about Patel’s headquarters proposals?
Patel has publicly proposed changes to the FBI’s Washington headquarters and personnel footprint. An Associated Press report described both a dramatic public statement about closing the Hoover Building and a less sweeping relocation idea in his book, while noting that implementation was uncertain. These were proposals at the time of reporting, not confirmed completed changes. Read the AP report.
