What did Kanye West say about Taylor Swift?
In the post, West said he was not Swift fans’ enemy, but also not their friend. He praised Swift and Beyoncé as inspirations to musicians and wrote: “ALSO, I’M SURE I’VE BEEN FAR MORE HELPFUL TO TAYLOR SWIFT’S CAREER THAN HARMFUL.” ABC Audio’s February 14, 2024 report reproduced the statement from his post.

West’s claim is a personal assessment. The reports on the episode do not independently measure whether his actions helped or harmed Swift’s career, so they do not establish a causal effect.
Why was West’s post in the news?
The post followed a lyric mentioning Swift on “Carnival,” a track from West’s album Vultures 1. It also appeared amid chart discussion involving “Carnival” and Beyoncé’s “Texas Hold ’Em.” Some Swift fans were encouraging people to stream Beyoncé’s song. The Independent’s February 15, 2024 report described the fan campaign as an effort to block West from reaching the top of the charts.

West also addressed discussion of his presence at Super Bowl LVIII. Former NFL player Brandon Marshall had claimed that West bought a seat near Swift’s suite and that Swift arranged to have him removed. West denied being kicked out, saying he and his wife left their seats to visit YG’s box and see friends. NME’s account reports both the allegation and West’s response; the reporting does not independently verify where he sat or why his party moved.

The 2009 MTV Video Music Awards
The public dispute is often traced to the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards, when West interrupted Swift’s acceptance speech to praise Beyoncé’s video. NME’s retrospective recounts the incident.

The 2016 dispute over “Famous”
The conflict returned to prominence in 2016 over West’s song “Famous” and the disagreement about whether Swift had approved its lyrics. In a December 2023 interview with Time, Swift called that episode a “fully manufactured frame job,” according to Entertainment Tonight’s report. That phrase describes Swift’s view, not a neutral adjudication of the dispute.
