Jim Ross said he made an unexpected trip to an emergency room in Norman, Oklahoma, on May 23, 2024, because he was experiencing shortness of breath. His post did not give a diagnosis. Follow-up reports attributed additional medical details to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter; they should not be mistaken for information Ross disclosed himself or for a public medical record.
What Jim Ross said about the 2024 hospital visit
On the morning of May 23, 2024, Ross posted: “Unexpected trip to ER in Norman this morning. Shortness of the breath. That’s all for now.” The post established that he had gone to the ER and identified the symptom, but it did not explain what caused it or name a diagnosis. F4W’s contemporaneous report also described a hospital photo with his daughters.
What follow-up reports added
In a May 24, 2024 report, F4W relayed details attributed to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter: Ross reportedly had Class A flu and raised heart enzymes, was receiving care, and was expected to be fine in a few days. These were second-hand reported details, not statements in Ross’s original post or a publicly available physician or hospital account. The coverage does not establish a specific heart diagnosis, and the phrase “raised heart enzymes” should not be treated as one.
F4W’s follow-up said Ross was expected to miss AEW Double or Nothing on May 26, 2024. The contemporaneous coverage described his role as focused on pay-per-view commentary. Cageside Seats also reported that he would miss the event after the hospitalization: its May 24 report.

Keep the later 2026 brain procedure separate
Ross’s subsequent health news concerns a different event. He announced a second brain procedure to address a shunt issue in October 2026. Fightful reported the planned procedure on October 5, and POST Wrestling reported on October 7 that a family update shared by Ross’s podcast co-host said it had gone well and he was recovering: POST Wrestling’s October 7 update. This procedure was not part of the May 2024 shortness-of-breath episode.

Ross’s own post and the cited contemporaneous wrestling coverage do not provide a public hospital statement, medical record, or physician account establishing the cause of his shortness of breath. The later reported flu and enzyme details remain attributed to secondary reporting. The available information does not support identifying the episode as a heart attack or any other specific diagnosis.
