The three-minute video pairs Lorde’s physical, unrestrained movement with the song’s intimate perspective. Universal Music Japan described the clip as showing her removing her T-shirt and expressing herself through full-body movement. Grant Singer directed it, according to Pitchfork’s May 29, 2025 report.
The release materials describe what happens on screen but do not establish a definitive symbolic meaning. The image and movement are open to interpretation rather than a confirmed explanation from Lorde.
Release date, album and credits
“Man of the Year” and its video arrived on May 29, 2025. Universal Music Canada identified it as the second advance single from Virgin, which was then scheduled for June 27, 2025. The album was released on that date; Lorde’s official YouTube album-track listing gives June 27 as the track’s album release date.
