“Boom Goes the Cannon” was released as part of #Hamildrops, a series of Hamilton-related songs. Pitchfork’s June 18, 2018 report identified the track as previously unreleased Mobb Deep music. Pitchfork’s report also noted that it came almost a year after Prodigy, one half of the duo, died.

Rhino later described Hamildrops as monthly releases from 2017 through 2018 and a direct extension of The Hamilton Mixtape. Its anthology track list includes “Boom Goes the Cannon…” by Mobb Deep. Rhino’s anthology announcement says the collection brings the complete Hamildrops together on physical media for the first time.
How did the collaboration begin?
People en Español reported that Miranda invited Mobb Deep to see Hamilton in New York in 2016. In that report, Miranda was quoted as saying, “I’m unbelievably proud to present new Mobb Deep music in 2018.” People en Español’s article is the source for both the invitation account and the attributed quote.

Where can listeners find the track?
“Boom Goes the Cannon” appears in Hamildrops: The Complete Collection, which Rhino included in Rise Up! Hamilton: The Anthology. Apple Music lists Hamildrops: The Complete Collection as a 12-song album released May 22, 2025 under Hamilton Uptown, LLC’s exclusive license to Rhino Entertainment Company. Apple Music’s listing confirms that catalog entry; it does not establish availability in every territory or current retailer stock.
The Hamilton site’s archive also lists the song and credits Mobb Deep, but labels it an August Hamildrop. That month conflicts with Pitchfork’s contemporaneous June 18, 2018 report, so June 18 is the date supported by the contemporary release coverage. The Hamilton archive entry corroborates the track and artist credit.
