His sister, Félicité
His sister Félicité died in 2019, aged 18. The same reporting describes her death as an accidental overdose. The available accounts do not establish further circumstances, and it would be inappropriate to infer intent.
His former bandmate, Liam Payne
Payne died on October 16, 2024, aged 31, after falling from a hotel balcony in Buenos Aires, according to the Associated Press. Tomlinson and the other surviving One Direction members—Niall Horan, Harry Styles and Zayn Malik—said publicly that they were devastated and needed time to grieve and process the loss. Their statement, as quoted by AP, said: “The memories we shared with him will be treasured forever.”

Why the public record is limited
