Yes. In Charles III: The Coronation Year, Kate Middleton and Princess Charlotte curtsy to King Charles during a rehearsal at Westminster Abbey—not during the coronation service itself. The documentary was listed to air in the UK on 26 December 2023.
What happens in the documentary scene?
The reported clip shows a rehearsal at Westminster Abbey as King Charles and Queen Camilla prepared for their coronation. Prince William and Catherine, Princess of Wales—widely known as Kate Middleton—brought their children to the practice session. After Charles greeted Catherine with a hug and kiss, she dipped into a quick curtsy. Charlotte greeted her grandfather and also curtsied.
The setting matters: this is rehearsal footage, not footage of the coronation ceremony. The account of the scene was published by Yahoo News, republishing People journalism: the report on Kate and Charlotte’s curtsies.
What is Charles III: The Coronation Year about?
The film follows King Charles’s first year as monarch and the preparation for his coronation, with behind-the-scenes moments around the ceremony. The BBC described it as offering “a unique perspective on the inner workings behind a defining moment which marks a new era in the history of the monarchy.” BBC Director of Unscripted Kate Phillips said the programme would give viewers insight into Charles and Queen Camilla and the planning leading to the coronation.
