The acquittal did not resolve a separate racketeering proceeding that the Associated Press reported was still pending in September 2026.
What was Lil Durk arrested for?
The U.S. Department of Justice said Banks was arrested near Miami International Airport on October 24, 2024. A federal criminal complaint accused him of conspiring to use interstate facilities to commit murder-for-hire resulting in death. Prosecutors tied the allegation to a shooting near the Beverly Center in Los Angeles in August 2022, in which a relative of the alleged target was killed. These were allegations, not findings of guilt. The Justice Department’s announcement stated that a complaint contains allegations and that defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
How did the federal charges change?
On November 8, 2024, prosecutors announced a superseding indictment charging Banks with conspiracy, use of interstate facilities to commit murder-for-hire resulting in death, and firearms offenses. The indictment said the attackers fired “at least 18 rounds” at the target’s vehicle; that figure is the prosecutors’ allegation about the incident, not an independently established finding. The DOJ release on the superseding indictment also emphasized that an indictment states allegations and does not establish guilt.
What was the jury’s outcome?
In September 2026, the Associated Press reported that a federal jury acquitted Banks of conspiracy, stalking resulting in death, and murder-for-hire charges in the Los Angeles shooting case. The acquittal applies to those specified charges; it should not be described as a verdict on a different proceeding. The AP report said Banks remained in custody pending a separate racketeering trial. Its report does not establish the later status or outcome of that separate case.

What did prosecutors say at the time?
When announcing the arrest, U.S. Attorney Martin Estrada said: “Mr. Banks is charged with orchestrating a cold-blooded murder that resulted in the death of a rival’s family member.” That was Estrada’s characterization of the charge in 2024, not a court finding; the jury later acquitted Banks of the specified charges in the Los Angeles shooting case.

Complaint, indictment, and verdict: the distinction
- Complaint: The document underlying the October 2024 arrest set out prosecutors’ allegations.
- Superseding indictment: The November 2024 charging document formally alleged additional offenses, including firearms charges.
- Acquittal: The jury found Banks not guilty of the conspiracy, stalking resulting in death, and murder-for-hire charges identified in AP’s September 2026 report.
- Separate proceeding: AP reported that a racketeering trial remained pending at that time; the available reporting cited here does not establish what happened afterward.
