News reports published in July 2024 said that Lil Durk’s 10-year-old son allegedly shot his stepfather, Joshua Pippens, during an incident reported to have occurred on 1 July. The claim that the child acted “to protect” his mother has not been independently verified. The available accounts trace back to Pippens’s social-media posts and footage described by news outlets, not a cited official finding.
What was reported about the incident
PerthNow reported on 8 July 2024 that the incident took place on 1 July. It identified the alleged shooter as Lil Durk’s 10-year-old son and the alleged victim as the boy’s stepfather, Joshua Pippens. TheJasmineBRAND had reported the allegation the previous day.
PerthNow said surveillance footage shared by Pippens showed an altercation, a child pointing a weapon, then a gunshot and Pippens falling. That is the outlet’s description of footage attributed to Pippens; the account available here does not independently authenticate the video or establish the sequence as an official finding. PerthNow’s 8 July report and TheJasmineBRAND’s 7 July report both recount Pippens’s posts.
What Pippens said—and what remains an allegation
PerthNow attributed the following Instagram caption to Pippens, accompanying footage he posted: “As y’all can see I was not the aggressor and y’all also can see how I still had my gun on my hip he grabbed my gun off my hip following his mom’s lead and tried to shoot me and then actually shot me I advise y’all see it before they take it down #buildawareness”.
