Ripa and co-host Mark Consuelos presented Gelman with the career achievement recognition; the hosts discussed the ceremony on the October 1 episode.
What happened at the Hall of Fame ceremony?
Ripa and Consuelos attended the New York awards dinner to support Gelman and presented him with the career achievement recognition. ABC7 also reported their attendance and identified Gelman as the show’s longtime executive producer (ABC7 Los Angeles).
On the next day’s episode of Live with Kelly and Mark, Ripa recalled the ceremony, saying, “I’m not going to lie, I got very emotional.” Gelman said he was moved by the hosts’ remarks: “I got emotional during your speeches. Thank you for coming out there. That was very nice.” TV Insider reported both remarks as part of its account of the October 1 broadcast (TV Insider).
Why was Michael Gelman honored?
The recognition marked Gelman’s induction into the Broadcasting & Cable Hall of Fame. The show’s official biography traces his work on the New York morning show to its creation in 1987 and says he orchestrated its transition to a national ratings powerhouse the following year. The biography describes him as the youngest producer of a national talk show; that is the show’s own characterization (Live with Kelly and Mark).
