Epper grew up in a family of stunt performers and began working in the field at nine, according to the Associated Press. The AP describes a career of roughly 70 years. She helped found the Stuntwomen’s Association of Motion Pictures, an organization supporting women working in a field where, by her account, opportunities were difficult to secure early in her career.
What did Epper do on Wonder Woman?
Epper was Lynda Carter’s stunt double on the original television series. The job became her signature role and a breakthrough, bringing her work to audiences through the show’s action sequences while Carter portrayed the title character. Epper also doubled leading women on other popular series, including The Bionic Woman and Charlie’s Angels.
#1 Best Overall
In a 2014 interview archived by the Television Academy, Epper described the gender assumptions she encountered. She recalled that women were not always welcomed in stunt work, and that actresses who wanted women to double them helped create more opportunities. Her account offers a perspective on the shift without suggesting that any one performer changed hiring practices alone.
Her work beyond television
Epper’s credits included The Big Valley, Dynasty, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Poltergeist, Terms of Endearment, Romancing the Stone, Minority Report, Kill Bill: Vol. 2 and The Amazing Spider-Man 2. Credit counts vary by source and by what is counted: the Television Academy biography says she appeared in more than 100 films, while the Washington Post reported more than 150 films and television episodes or series.
The Romancing the Stone mudslide
One of Epper’s best-known film stunts was the mudslide sequence performed for Kathleen Turner in Romancing the Stone. The Los Angeles Times reported that Epper received a 1985 Stuntman Award for the most spectacular stunt in a feature film for that work.

In 2007, Epper became the first woman to receive a lifetime achievement award at the Taurus World Stunt Awards, according to the Associated Press. The recognition reflected a career that crossed generations of television and film and helped make women’s stunt work more visible. Her association with Wonder Woman remains the clearest entry point, but her broader body of work shows a performer who continued working across changing eras of screen action.
