She continued speaking and, after one miscued moment, joked, “I can conjure up voices.” The cause of the interruptions has not been established.
What happened to the sound during Jane Fonda’s speech?
Fonda’s speech encountered brief sound interruptions during the broadcast. The Associated Press reported that audio issues occasionally marred the ceremony, including interruptions during her remarks. TIME described multiple sound gaffes and reported that Fonda responded to a miscued audio moment with the ad-lib, “I can conjure up voices.”
Those accounts describe what viewers heard, but do not identify a technical cause. The available reporting does not establish a microphone failure, intentional muting, or any particular production fault.
