The claim began as an unverified December 2022 rumor naming Dario Agger, followed by a separate May 2024 report about an unspecified Marvel role. Neither report establishes that talks took place or that Affleck joined the franchise.
What did the original Ben Affleck–Marvel report claim?
On December 28, 2022, the anonymous online scooper MyTimeToShineHello posted that Affleck had spoken with Marvel Studios about playing Dario Agger. The Mary Sue quoted the claim as: “Ben Affleck had talks with Marvel Studios to play Dario Agger in an upcoming project.” The outlet described it as a rumor and noted there was no official report confirming Affleck’s involvement. The claim is not a statement from Marvel or Affleck. The Mary Sue’s December 30, 2022 coverage provides the account. [c001]

How did the rumor change?
In May 2024, BGR relayed another claim, this time attributed to Daniel Richtman, that Affleck was reportedly in talks for an MCU role. That report did not name a character or a film. It is distinct from the 2022 Dario Agger claim, and it is not official confirmation. BGR’s May 2024 report describes the later, unspecified-role claim. [c004]
| Report | Claim | Official confirmation? |
|---|---|---|
| December 2022, as covered by The Mary Sue | Anonymous scooper MyTimeToShineHello reportedly said Affleck had talks to play Dario Agger. | No. The outlet framed it as a rumor. [c001] |
| May 2024, BGR | A claim attributed to Daniel Richtman said Affleck was reportedly in talks for an unspecified role. | No. The report did not identify a project or provide studio confirmation. [c004] |
Has Marvel confirmed Affleck for an MCU movie?
No official confirmation was found in the Marvel and Disney sources reviewed. Marvel’s official MCU page lists Avengers: Doomsday for December 18, 2026, but does not announce Affleck as attached to that film or another MCU project. Disney’s D23 showcase report likewise does not announce him. That absence from these reviewed announcements does not prove that no private conversation occurred; it means the public casting claim remains unconfirmed. Marvel’s official MCU movies page and Disney’s D23 showcase report provide the official context. [c002] [c005]
