Yes—but “reunion” means a two-hour retrospective, not a new episode or a full cast gathering. FOX’s M*A*S*H: The Comedy That Changed Television featured newly recorded interviews with seven cast members and two original executive producers, alongside archival interviews and clips. It was announced for January 1, 2024, in the fortieth-anniversary period after the series finale.
Was there really a M*A*S*H reunion?
FOX announced M*A*S*H: The Comedy That Changed Television as a two-hour celebration and look back at the series. The program brought together new interviews, archival material and clips; FOX did not announce a new scripted episode or say that every original cast member reunited in person. FOX’s announcement used the language of a reunion for this retrospective.

The timing marked roughly 40 years since the finale, “Goodbye, Farewell and Amen,” which aired February 28, 1983. The Television Academy dates the episode and describes it as a two-and-a-half-hour finale. Its series history also notes that the show ran for eleven seasons, from September 1972 to February 1983.
Which M*A*S*H cast members and producers took part?
FOX listed these participants in newly recorded interviews:
#1 Best Overall
- Alan Alda
- Gary Burghoff
- William Christopher
- Jamie Farr
- Mike Farrell
- Wayne Rogers
- Loretta Swit
- Executive producers Gene Reynolds and Burt Metcalfe
Loretta Swit is included because she participated in the recorded special. The Associated Press reported her death on May 30, 2025; she should not be described as a living participant. The AP obituary covers her career and death.
The special also drew on rarely seen archival interviews with Larry Gelbart and actors Larry Linville, Harry Morgan, McLean Stevenson and David Ogden Stiers, according to FOX. Their appearance in archival footage is distinct from a newly recorded interview.

Why “original cast” needs a qualification
The series’ ensemble changed during its eleven-season run, so “original cast” does not describe one unchanged group across all episodes. The Television Academy’s history recounts, among other changes, Wayne Rogers’ departure and Mike Farrell’s arrival, McLean Stevenson’s replacement by Harry Morgan, and Larry Linville’s replacement by David Ogden Stiers. The retrospective’s interview list spans performers associated with different points in the show’s run.
When did the reunion special air?
FOX announced a broadcast on January 1, 2024, from 8 to 10 p.m. ET/PT. The announcement also listed next-day viewing on Hulu, FOX.com, on demand and Tubi. Those are the distribution options stated at the time of the announcement, not confirmation of current catalog availability.

The available sources establish the original FOX broadcast and the announcement-era next-day options, but do not establish where the special is currently streaming. Check current listings on FOX’s platforms and the services named in the original announcement before planning to watch; streaming catalogs can change.
Did the original cast reunite for a new episode?
No. The announced program is a retrospective built around interviews and archival footage, not a newly scripted installment of M*A*S*H. Its format lets participants look back on the series without presenting the event as a continuation of the story at the 4077th.

Why the finale still defines the anniversary
The Television Academy reports that “Goodbye, Farewell and Amen” drew 105.9 million viewers, earning a 60.3 rating and a 77 share, and calls it the most-watched television broadcast to that date. FOX’s announcement gives the rating as 60.2 and the share as 77. Because the rating figures differ, they should be kept attributed: the Academy reports 60.3, while FOX reports 60.2. The viewer total is reported by the Academy.
The Academy also records fourteen Emmy wins for the series and a Peabody Award. The show’s impact reached beyond its popularity: Alan Alda told the Academy that although many viewers connected the series to the Vietnam War, he understood it as specifically about the Korean War while also standing in for war more broadly. Mike Farrell recalled that the cast chose to end the show, rather than the network or studio ending it.
