The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie sends Daffy Duck and Porky Pig into a hand-drawn science-fiction adventure to stop an alien invasion—and makes its animation style part of the story’s appeal. Petunia Pig, a young flavor scientist, helps the pair investigate after extraterrestrial goo contaminates mass-produced chewing gum and turns its chewers into an alien hive mind.
What is The Day the Earth Blew Up about?
The film’s invasion begins with a familiar everyday product: chewing gum. Alien goo gets into the mass-produced gum, and people who chew it become part of a hive mind. Daffy and Porky are the central duo trying to uncover and stop the threat, with Petunia Pig drawn into the investigation through her work as a young flavor scientist. io9’s review describes the setup as a science-fiction adventure comedy that draws on 1950s-style invasion films while filtering the danger through Looney Tunes slapstick.

How the animation sets the film apart
The feature uses hand-drawn 2D animation rather than computer-generated imagery as its primary visual approach. Hulu calls it the first fully animated feature-length film in Looney Tunes history; io9 describes it as the franchise’s first fully animated theatrical feature. Those are the sources’ respective descriptions, not interchangeable formulations. Hulu’s official title page also labels it a 2025 PG animated feature.
The visual contrast supports the premise: an extraterrestrial threat enters through ordinary consumer packaging, while the characters respond with the exaggerated physical comedy associated with Looney Tunes. In io9’s assessment, Daffy and Porky—not Bugs Bunny or Tweety—provide the comedic center of this adventure.

Who made the movie and voices the characters?
Pete Browngardt directed the film. Eric Bauza voices both Daffy Duck and Porky Pig, while Candi Milo voices Petunia Pig. Hulu also lists Peter MacNicol among the stars. These credits are listed on Hulu’s film page.
Release and ways to watch
io9 reported that the film opened on March 14, 2025. Warner Bros. Discovery’s pressroom search-result announcement dated May 19, 2025 named June 27, 2025 as the U.S. streaming debut on Max; the announcement page itself was not accessible, so that date is best treated as a historical announcement rather than proof of current availability. Hulu currently lists a title page, but a listing does not by itself establish that the film is included with every subscription or available in every country.

Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Is it a good fit for Looney Tunes and animation fans?
It is a natural choice for viewers who want the classic characters in a feature-length sci-fi scenario, especially those interested in hand-drawn 2D animation and slapstick rather than a realistic alien-invasion thriller. The premise gives Daffy, Porky, and Petunia a clear shared problem, while the gum-and-hive-mind mechanism supplies the science-fiction stakes. The 1950s invasion-film comparison is io9’s critical framing, not an official description of the filmmakers’ intent.
