What Lou Gramm meant by “Justice has been done”
In an interview published April 24, 2024, original Foreigner lead singer Lou Gramm said the induction gave “the ultimate credibility to all the creativity and work that myself and Mick and the whole Foreigner band has been doing for decades.” Asked about the recognition, he said he could not explain why it had taken so long, then ended with the succinct line: “Justice has been done.” Rolling Stone’s interview with Gramm presents the phrase as his satisfaction that the band’s long career had finally received this distinction.
Why Foreigner’s legacy reached beyond one sound
The Hall’s official Foreigner inductee page traces the group’s shift from guitar-led, anthemic rock in the 1970s toward a more keyboard-forward sound in the 1980s, with synthesizers, singalong choruses, and ballads. Its selected recordings include “Feels Like the First Time,” “Hot Blooded,” “Waiting for a Girl Like You,” “Juke Box Hero,” and “I Want to Know What Love Is.”
That range matters to Gramm’s account of the band’s identity. He said of “I Want to Know What Love Is”: “I love the song, but it pigeon-holed us into something that we were not.” That is his personal view of how the ballad affected public perception, not a consensus judgment about the song or the band. The Hall’s essay offers another lens: producer Mark Ronson says, “Everything that made me want to be a record producer came from being in the studio watching Foreigner make records,” while writer Robert Burke Warren describes the group’s “infectious, hooky tunes” and “meticulously crafted sound.”

What the induction recognized—and who was inducted
Foreigner was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2024, with Sammy Hagar as the inducer. The Hall’s list of inducted members includes Lou Gramm, Mick Jones, Ian McDonald, Ed Gagliardi, Al Greenwood, Dennis Elliott, and Rick Wills. The recognition therefore names members from the band’s history, rather than serving simply as a snapshot of its later touring lineup.
What Gramm expected before the ceremony
Gramm’s interview took place months before the October ceremony. His comments about the possibility of a reunion, performing, the likely length of a set, and which songs might be played were expectations at that time—not a definitive report of the event. The induction ceremony took place on October 19, 2024; Ultimate Classic Rock’s ceremony report provides the later event context. Keeping those dates separate avoids treating Gramm’s hopes as a record of what ultimately happened.

A listening path through Foreigner’s eras
The Hall’s selected songs offer a concise route through the contrasting sides of the group Gramm described: the early rock anthems “Feels Like the First Time,” “Hot Blooded,” and “Juke Box Hero,” alongside the ballads “Waiting for a Girl Like You” and “I Want to Know What Love Is.” Rolling Stone later reported that the compilation Turning Back the Time was issued on CD and LP in 2024 in connection with the induction, with classic recordings among its tracks. Those formats describe the release at that time; availability may vary now. Rolling Stone’s report on the compilation gives its release context and track listing.
