Its 2025 re-edition revisited that visual language across more than 200 creations, from bags and scarves to shoes and jewelry. The key to understanding the collection is to distinguish the original collaboration’s history from the later re-edition—and from what a country’s Louis Vuitton catalog happens to list today.
How the Louis Vuitton and Murakami collaboration began
LVMH dates the first Louis Vuitton x Takashi Murakami collaboration to 2003, when Marc Jacobs was the house’s creative director. The partnership joined Louis Vuitton’s established Monogram with Murakami’s colorful visual universe, creating a striking contrast between a familiar luxury-house signature and the artist’s playful, contemporary imagery. LVMH described the 2025 project as a re-edition that reimagined the original collection.
The collaboration is often identified with Monogram Multicolore: the repeating LV and floral Monogram motifs rendered in a vivid range of colors. It also brought distinct Murakami characters and patterns into the collection, making the work recognizable beyond the multicolored Monogram itself.
The signature motifs
Monogram Multicolore
Multicolore reworks Louis Vuitton’s Monogram in a bright palette. The familiar repeating pattern remains legible, but its color makes it feel more exuberant than the house’s classic restrained treatments.

Superflat Panda
The Superflat Panda motif draws on Murakami’s graphic, cartoon-like imagery. It is one of the collaboration’s signature designs alongside Multicolore and the floral motifs.
Cherry Blossom and Cherry
Cherry Blossom uses stylized flowers associated with spring, while Cherry centers on the collection’s fruit motif. These designs give the collaboration a different character from the all-over Multicolore pattern while retaining its bright, playful visual tone.

What the 2025 re-edition included
In its January 9, 2025 announcement, LVMH described the re-edition as more than 200 creations. The announced range extended well beyond handbags:
- Leather goods, including bags and small leather goods
- Silk squares and scarves
- Sunglasses and fashion jewelry
- Shoes
- Perfumes
Louis Vuitton’s U.S. collaboration catalog lists examples such as the Speedy Bandoulière 25, Alma BB, and Neverfull MM, as well as Speedy bags and small leather goods. Catalog listings show which products the brand presents in that market; they do not establish that an item is in stock, available in another country, or offered at a particular price.

How the 2025 chapters unfolded
The launch was presented in chapters rather than as one simultaneous release. LVMH said the first chapter would arrive at the beginning of January 2025 and the Cherry Blossom chapter in March 2025. Louis Vuitton later described Cherry as the third and final chapter. These are the announced release sequence and dates, not a guarantee of what remains available now.
LVMH also attributed the re-edition’s sharper prints and more vivid colors to advances in technology. That is the house’s description of how it approached the re-edition, rather than an independently measured performance claim.

Original-era pieces and the re-edition: what to check
Someone choosing between a vintage original and a 2025 re-edition should compare the details that determine what the item actually is, not rely on the collaboration name alone.
- Era and provenance: Establish whether the piece is from the original 2003-era collaboration or the 2025 re-edition, and look for documentation that supports its history.
- Motif and colorway: Confirm whether the design is Multicolore, Superflat Panda, Cherry Blossom, Cherry, or another specific treatment.
- Model and size: Compare the exact model and dimensions; a shared motif does not make two bags equivalent.
- Condition and authenticity documentation: Inspect the item’s condition and ask what evidence accompanies any authenticity claim.
- Seller, returns, and price: Review the seller’s policies and the final price before committing. Current official prices and resale offers are not established here and can vary by market and date.
What the collaboration means—and what current listings cannot tell you
The collaboration’s lasting appeal comes from the meeting of two recognizable visual systems: Louis Vuitton’s Monogram and Murakami’s vivid, playful imagery. Multicolore is its most immediately legible expression, while Panda, Cherry Blossom, and Cherry show how the partnership extended beyond a single pattern.
