Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP is worth considering if you want a knowingly ridiculous, single-player zombie-action comedy built around Juliet Starling’s personality—not a modern, deep combat system. The best version to choose depends on your platform: the Switch review documented performance problems, while the Switch 2 Edition was announced with technical upgrades for Japan. If you already own the 2012 original, RePOP’s main case is easier access and added modes, not a wholesale reinvention.
What kind of game is Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP?
RePOP is a single-player action game starring Juliet Starling, a cheerleader who fights a zombie outbreak with a chainsaw and cheerleading moves. Her companion is Nick, her decapitated boyfriend’s magically animated head. The premise, humor and presentation lean into campy horror rather than realism; Nintendo Life describes the script and tone as an idiosyncratic collaboration associated with Goichi Suda (Suda51) and filmmaker James Gunn. How does RePOP compare with the 2012 original?
RePOP is best understood as a way to play the game on newer platforms, with some changes, rather than a scene-by-scene modernization of every element. Dragami Games’ stated aim was to make the game easier to access: “In any case, our goal is to make it easier for gamers who want to play Lollipop Chainsaw to do so.” The publisher’s product description also acknowledges that some elements differ from the original. Soundtrack: the most notable difference for returning fans
Most licensed tracks are gone, according to Nintendo Life, with The Chordettes’ “Lollipop” retained. The reviewer says the replacement score changes the feel of sequences built around licensed music. The game’s core appeal remains its absurd premise and Juliet’s character. The Switch review’s criticism of stiff combat, alongside the broader mixed reception, is a reason not to buy expecting a contemporary action-game overhaul. RePOP’s streamlined upgrades may make progression more convenient, but they do not change the basic appeal: repeated zombie fights punctuated by the game’s comedy and style.

Modes and post-release content
RePOP includes Original Mode and RePOP Mode. Nightmare Mode was released as additional content on April 14, 2025 for PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and Steam. It unlocks after a happy ending in either Original Mode or RePOP Mode, changes enemy lineups and behavior, and lets players find ability upgrades. Think twice if you want
- The original’s full licensed soundtrack; most licensed tracks are absent from RePOP.
- Polished, modern-feeling combat or consistently smooth performance on the original Switch version.
- A substantial remake that transforms the original’s basic action and pacing.
