The floor event was not the vote that selected the nominee: Kamala Harris had already been confirmed through an earlier virtual vote.
What did Lil Jon do at the 2024 DNC?
On the convention’s second day, Lil Jon appeared with the Georgia delegation as states and territories announced their votes in a musical roll call. Georgia Public Broadcasting’s August 20, 2024 report identifies him performing on the convention floor at the United Center in Chicago.
He performed “Turn Down for What” and “Get Low” while introducing Georgia’s delegation. TIME also reported that he walked down the arena steps leading a “We’re not going back” chant, a phrase TIME described as central to the Harris campaign.
Why was Lil Jon there, and what did Georgia announce?
The appearance connected a prominent Atlanta artist with his state’s delegation. Georgia Democratic Party chair Rep. Nikema Williams introduced the delegation with the line, “Mr. Secretary, the South got something to say,” then announced that Georgia cast 123 votes for the next president. Her remarks, reported by Georgia Public Broadcasting, also praised Harris and named voting rights, reproductive freedom and the freedom to thrive among the issues she said Harris would fight for.

Lil Jon’s performance fit a wider musical format: the Democratic National Convention said all 57 delegations celebrated with songs selected to represent their states or territories. DJ Cassidy was associated with the roll call’s music. The performance was a lively part of that state-by-state presentation, not an independent vote or a separate campaign event.
Did the roll call decide the Democratic nominee?
No. The convention-floor roll call was ceremonial and celebratory. Harris had already been made the Democratic presidential nominee through an earlier virtual vote. The floor segment gave delegations a chance to announce and celebrate their votes publicly, rather than determine the result anew.
