The Rip is worth streaming if you want a tense, star-led crime thriller built around Matt Damon and Ben Affleck’s shared screen presence. Reviews point to an engaging atmosphere and strong lead chemistry, but also to familiar plotting and a glossy late-film action stretch. Expect a solid one-night watch, not an essential crime classic.
What is The Rip about?
Netflix’s 2026 crime thriller follows Miami narcotics officers who discover a hidden stash of cash in a cartel house. The operation turns into a siege, with greed and uncertainty putting the officers’ loyalties in question. The Associated Press describes it as a neo-noir unfolding over one foggy Miami night; that contained setup supplies much of the suspense. The premise is best approached without knowing more about who can be trusted.

What works well?
The atmosphere and tension
The Associated Press review praises the film’s atmosphere and the shifting boundary between cops and criminals, calling it “a lean and potent-enough neo-noir.” That moral uncertainty helps keep the story engaging as the officers contend with the cash and the escalating danger.

Damon and Affleck together
Their shared screen presence is a central draw. Rotten Tomatoes’ critic-consensus excerpt praises the leads’ chemistry and describes the movie as compulsively watchable. If you enjoy seeing the two actors play off each other in a contained crime story, the film has a clear appeal.
What might disappoint?
The film is less compelling if originality is your main priority. TechRadar’s review snippet characterizes it as serviceable and short on originality. A surfaced Rotten Tomatoes audience review criticizes the final action stretch as glossy. Those are individual critical reactions, not a universal audience verdict, but they suggest the movie’s strengths are atmosphere and performance more than a fresh crime-thriller formula.
