MGM Resorts said on March 18, 2024, that Bruno Mars has no debt with the company. The widely repeated claim of gambling debt “as high as $50 million” came from an unidentified source and was described in contemporaneous reporting as unconfirmed. The separate $60 million figure referred to alleged annual after-tax earnings—not a verified debt balance. Mars later joked about the rumor, but his comments did not establish whether he owes money elsewhere or disclose his overall finances.
What did MGM say about Bruno Mars’s alleged debt?
In a statement reported by FOX5 Las Vegas on March 18, 2024, MGM Resorts International said: “He has no debt with MGM.” The company also called speculation to the contrary false. FOX5 Las Vegas reported MGM’s denial.

MGM described its relationship with Mars as a longstanding partnership rooted in mutual respect, referring to his performances at Dolby Live at Park MGM and the Pinky Ring lounge at Bellagio. That statement describes the company’s relationship with the performer; it is not a disclosure of his private finances.
Where did the $50 million debt claim come from?
March 2024 reporting attributed the claim of gambling debt “as high as $50 million” to an unidentified source. The Las Vegas Review-Journal reporting republished by The Spokesman-Review characterized the figures as unconfirmed. An unnamed-source allegation is not proof of a balance, and MGM’s direct statement contradicted the claim that Mars owed the company money.

What does the $60 million figure mean?
The $60 million figure was presented in the rumor reporting as a claimed annual amount Mars earned after taxes—not as the debt total. The same unidentified source was also cited for claims of $90 million annually and $1.5 million per performance. Those earnings figures were not independently verified in the reporting reviewed. Complex’s March 2024 report covered the rumor and MGM’s response.
Keeping the figures separate matters: the allegation was debt of up to $50 million; $60 million was a claimed annual after-tax amount. Neither number was established through a public financial disclosure.
Did Bruno Mars later confirm that he was in debt?
No. In July 2025, Mars joked in a social post, “Almost out of debt BehhhhhBehhhhh!!! Preciate You ROSAAAAYYYYYY!!!!” The Daily Beast reported that he also described the rumor as “lore,” saying, “I love the lore that I am a Las Vegas lounge singer in debt to the mob.” The remarks were presented humorously and do not confirm that he had a debt or reveal any balance. The Daily Beast’s July 15, 2025 report recounted the comments.
Do Mars’s earlier gambling stories support the rumor?
No. In a 2013 GQ interview, Mars discussed early gambling experiences, including losing $100 during a first casino visit at age 19, as recounted in 2024 coverage. That anecdote is about an earlier experience, not evidence of a later debt to MGM. Complex’s reporting included that context.

What can be concluded about his finances today?
The public reporting establishes MGM’s March 2024 statement that Mars had no debt with MGM. It does not establish his complete current financial position across every possible creditor. The sources reviewed did not identify an audited financial statement, court record, or direct public disclosure establishing his total current debt. It would therefore be inaccurate either to present the $50 million rumor as fact or to turn MGM’s company-specific denial into proof that Mars has no debts of any kind.
