Public reporting points to a broad estrangement between Brad Pitt and his six children, but it does not confirm whether he is currently speaking with each child individually. Pitt has not publicly detailed the status of those relationships, so it would be inaccurate to say that none of his children speak to him.

What has Brad Pitt said about his children?

In an interview published by Esquire on August 10, 2026, writer Ryan D’Agostino asked Pitt whether the painful period he had described was about his children. Pitt replied, “Family stuff,” and then added, “Family stuff. We could leave it at that.” He did not explain who he was in contact with or describe any child’s relationship with him.

D’Agostino also cautioned that “Only Pitt, Jolie, and their children know exactly what’s going on between them all.” That qualification matters: the interview offers Pitt’s brief response, not a child-by-child account.

What does reporting say about the family?

The Esquire profile characterizes the children as not talking to Pitt, and other coverage describes a broad estrangement. Those are media descriptions of the family situation; they do not independently verify the current status of each parent-child relationship. The most supportable answer is that public reporting indicates broad estrangement, while current speaking status with each child has not been publicly confirmed.

Pitt and Angelina Jolie have six children: Maddox, Pax, Zahara, Shiloh, Knox, and Vivienne. The Associated Press reported in December 2024 that a judge approved their divorce settlement, with some legal issues remaining separate. The settlement’s status does not establish whether Pitt is in contact with any of the children.

Do surname choices or legal matters establish whether they speak?

No. Press reports about surname choices may offer context about family dynamics, but a name decision does not demonstrate whether a child is currently speaking with a parent. El País reported in July 2026 that public information about the family largely comes from third parties and that some legal name-change details were unclear.

Likewise, legal proceedings concerning the former couple do not answer the private question of parent-child communication. The AP’s account of the divorce settlement and other legal matters is context, not evidence of what any child thinks or whether they communicate with Pitt.

What is known—and what remains private?

  • Known: Pitt and Jolie have six children, and recent coverage describes broad estrangement.
  • Directly stated by Pitt: When asked about the children, he referred to “Family stuff” and declined to elaborate.
  • Not publicly confirmed: Whether Pitt is currently speaking with each child, or the details of any private conversations or changes in contact.

In a June 2025 conversation with Dax Shepard, reported by ABC News, Pitt discussed attending Alcoholics Anonymous. That account concerns his comments about a difficult period; it does not establish his current contact with his children.
