David Geffen bought Rising Sun from Larry Ellison in 2010 for a reported $590 million, according to Forbes. That figure is a historical reported purchase price—not a verified current valuation. The yacht is a 138-metre Lürssen-built vessel designed by Jon Bannenberg, with a 28-knot maximum speed listed by its builder.
How much is David Geffen’s yacht Rising Sun worth?
There is no definitive current value established by the available sources. Forbes reports a $590 million purchase price when Geffen bought the yacht from Ellison in 2010, and separately estimates its value at $214 million in an article published around 2024. A current yacht listing surfaced at $200 million, but a listing price is not proof of a completed sale or a formal appraisal. These figures describe different things and should not be treated as directly comparable valuations.
No transaction record or formal appraisal is available in the cited sources, so the $590 million figure should remain attributed as a reported historical purchase price.
Who built Rising Sun and when?
German shipyard Lürssen built Rising Sun. Lürssen describes it as a 138-metre luxury yacht, while Superyacht Times lists its length as 138.6 metres. These are differing levels of precision, not evidence of two different vessels. Superyacht Times records delivery in 2004 and a gross tonnage of 7,841.
