CYAN is a 48.7-metre Italian motor yacht built by Codecasa in 1997. It is widely associated with Bono: Denison Yacht Sales reports that he bought it in 2008 after chartering it with his family. But a feature published on the yacht’s own website describes three longtime-friend families as the buyers, and the available sources do not establish who legally owns CYAN today. Its value is also uncertain: published estimates differ, and neither is a verified current appraisal.
What is CYAN?
CYAN is a 48.7-metre (159.9-foot) motor yacht built by the Italian shipyard Codecasa in 1997. Burgess lists a 2021 refit. Its name comes from the Greek word for dark blue, according to a 2018 design feature hosted on CYAN’s website and attributed to Architectural Digest.
The feature says interior designer Nina Seirafi worked on the yacht’s interior, while Monaco-based marine architect Espen Øino was hired to add a gym on the top deck. It describes a redesign that replaced an all-white exterior with a white upper section and charcoal hull, and notes details such as silver-tinted oak and subtle Africa-inspired motifs. These are descriptions of the design work, not a current technical survey.
Is CYAN Bono’s yacht?
CYAN is often described in yacht and celebrity coverage as Bono’s yacht, but the wording needs qualification. Denison Yacht Sales says Bono bought the yacht in 2008 after chartering it with his family the previous summer. The yacht-hosted design feature, however, says three families who were longtime friends bought it. Another account has reported that Bono and The Edge co-own it, but that claim is not corroborated by the three-family description.

The available accounts do not include a current registry extract or other documentation establishing beneficial ownership. They support describing CYAN as a yacht associated with Bono in published reporting, not as a vessel whose current sole owner is confirmed. The published amenities make the yacht’s leisure spaces as notable as its size. Burgess lists a sun-deck jacuzzi, dedicated gym, outdoor cinema with a three-metre screen, a library of more than 1,500 films, and a baby grand piano. The yacht’s own website also promotes zero-speed stabilizers, six staterooms, an outdoor cinema, and gym and massage space.
Can you charter CYAN?
Yes. Burgess lists CYAN for charter and publishes the following weekly rates, accessed in 2026. They are listing rates, not a guarantee of availability or a complete trip budget.

The yacht-hosted design feature presents the transformation as a deliberate shift in identity: a charcoal hull, lighter upperworks, silver-toned oak, and restrained Africa-inspired details. Seirafi described the project as one she felt especially connected to, saying, “She’s the project I’m most attached to.” She also said, “We wanted a sleeker look and a new identity.” These remarks appear in the 2018 feature and reflect the designer’s account of the project.
