Reid has said she has Russell-Silver syndrome. She describes being mistaken for a child and adapting to everyday tasks. She has also spoken about strangers staring at or mocking her, and about friends and family helping by treating her as herself. These are Reid’s personal experiences, not a universal account of dwarfism.

That aspiration points to more than visibility alone. A character can be present on screen yet still be reduced to a single trait. The distinction Reid draws is between height as one part of a multidimensional character and height as the whole reason the character exists in the story.
How did Reid approach playing Natalia Grace?
Reid played Natalia Grace in Hulu’s Good American Family. Hulu’s 2025 biography of Reid identifies Natalia as a Ukrainian-born adoptee with spondyloepiphyseal dysplasia congenita. Reid has said she has a different form of dwarfism. She and the production worked with movement and acting coaches to develop a portrayal that felt genuine in Reid’s body, rather than treating her physicality as an imitation exercise.

Reid also said, “I wanted to fight for that justice and for her story to be seen.” Her stated motivation is part of her own account of taking on the role; it should not be mistaken for a factual finding about Natalia or the events portrayed.
What is the series’ point of view—and what does that mean for viewers?
Hulu describes Good American Family as a dramatized retelling. Its 2025 lead sheet says the series uses multiple points of view to explore perspective, bias, and trauma. That framing matters: a drama’s shifting perspectives are storytelling choices, not independent verification of claims about the real people involved.
