A wedding hidden inside a harvest-moon celebration
Event planners Ann David and Nicky Reinhard of David Reinhard Events told PEOPLE that the couple decided to keep the ceremony secret. Family, including Moynahan’s son, and a small number of close friends attended the vows first. Other invitees arrived expecting a harvest-moon party and learned of the marriage afterward. The ceremony and vineyard setting
The vows took place in an open field at Wölffer Estate, a vineyard in Sagaponack on Long Island’s East End. Contemporary coverage reported the wedding on October 19, 2015, as having taken place the preceding Saturday; Wölffer’s own post likewise described it as the prior Saturday, establishing October 17 as the date. A relaxed, autumn-inspired reception
David and Reinhard described long rustic wooden tables dressed with eucalyptus and lemon leaves and a white floral garland. The natural greenery and understated fall styling suited the vineyard setting rather than turning the reception into a heavily formal production. Guests were served a three-course farm-to-table meal. The cake and the venue’s favor
A later wedding feature, attributing the detail to PEOPLE, reported that the cake had vanilla for Moynahan and chocolate for Frankel, with a different flavor in each tier. Wölffer Estate says its No. 139 Dry Cider was given as a wedding favor; that is a detail about this 2015 event, not an indication of current availability.
