The message, as quoted in the report, was about a performance of Lyrics From Lockdown and ended with an affectionate sign-off. The account is attributed to Williams’s interview with NBC News and an email he shared with the network; the message and its timestamp are not independently verified here.
What did Michele Reiner’s email say?
The report reproduces Michele Reiner’s message as saying: “I’m sure you have heard from Tera, but the show last night was amazing.” It also quotes her sign-off: “Hope you’re doing well,” followed by “Love you.” The email was about a performance of Lyrics From Lockdown, which the Reiners had attended the previous night. Williams’s wife, Tera, was also there, according to the report.
The report says the message was timestamped December 13 at 8:26 p.m. ET and describes it as arriving hours before the killings. That timing and the quoted text come from the account published by Entertainment Weekly and syndicated by AOL, based on Williams’s NBC News interview and the email he shared with NBC News: the January 6, 2026 report.
How did the Reiners come to know Nanon Williams?
The reported connection began in 2016, when Rob and Michele Reiner first saw Lyrics From Lockdown, a production created by Bryonn Bain. Rob Reiner later joined the production as an executive producer, and the couple began corresponding with Williams by phone and email.

#1 Best Overall
The performance described in Michele Reiner’s email included members of Williams’s family and guests, among them Georgetown professor Marc Howard and Billy Crystal, according to the report. Williams said the Reiners became “an integral part of my life.” He also said they did not seek recognition for helping him: “Rob and Michele didn’t want credit for trying to help me. It was just because they loved me.” Those remarks are attributed to Williams in the NBC interview as reported by Entertainment Weekly.
Who is Nanon Williams, and what was the legal case?
Williams was sentenced to death in 1995 for a 1992 killing in Houston. His sentence was reduced to life without parole in 2005, and he maintains his innocence, the report says.
The article also says the Reiners advocated for Williams as he sought a new trial in 2024. It links their letters to a Texas Forensic Science Commission report indicating that ballistics testimony used in his conviction was later shown to be incorrect. That account is not enough to establish the precise findings, procedural history, or current status of the case; those details should be checked against the commission report and court records before being stated more definitively.

The available account is a January 2026 article reporting on an NBC News interview and a message Williams shared with the network. The interview and email were not independently retrieved for this article. Accordingly, the quoted email wording, timestamp, and chronology should be understood as reported rather than independently authenticated. The report supplies a personal account of the Reiners’ relationship with Williams, but it does not by itself resolve the underlying legal claims.
