These were her reported experiences, not evidence that every influencer faces the same problems.
What Garibotto said about Instagram fame
PerthNow’s 9 December 2019 profile reported Garibotto’s remarks, attributing them to an interview with news.com.au. The profile said she had 1.6 million Instagram followers at the time; that is a historical count, not a current figure.
Sexualized messages and unwanted proposals
PerthNow quoted Garibotto describing the messages she received: “My DMs are shocking. There is almost always some guy trying to fly me first class to places like Dubai, offering me $73,000 or even $146,000 for my time.” The quoted offers are claims she described, not verified transactions.
She also said the idea of followers using her photos sexually made her uncomfortable. PerthNow printed her words: “The idea of (my followers) pleasuring themselves to my photos is gross.”

Hostile reactions and trust
According to PerthNow’s account of the interview, some people reacted badly when Garibotto did not respond to their messages. She also said she had been lied about or stolen from by people she had initially regarded as friends or co-workers. These statements describe her own experience; the profile does not establish how common such behavior is among creators.
Visibility could also reassure her
The profile did not portray every consequence of attention as negative. Garibotto said positive comments from people she met in person could reassure her that she looked like her photographs. The contrast captures the tension she described: online visibility could bring affirmation and opportunity while also inviting intrusive attention.

What the 2019 earnings figures do—and do not—show
PerthNow reported that Garibotto earned about $570,000 annually. A July 2019 La Raza article gave a different estimate: $300,000 a year. Neither outlet’s figure is a verified financial record, and the difference means the amounts should be treated as historical media estimates, not confirmed income.

The widely reported incident involving Pope Francis’s official Instagram account came in late 2020, after the 2019 profile. Contemporary reports said a like appeared on one of Garibotto’s posts, was later removed, and was investigated by the Vatican. One report said the timing of the like was unclear; the available reporting does not establish that Pope Francis personally liked the image.

In December 2020, TN reported that Garibotto said the publicity brought her more than 600,000 additional followers, taking her to nearly 3 million at that point, and helped her feel more confident about posting and making brand deals. Those figures describe the period reported by TN, not her present-day following.
A 2025 UOL retrospective said the Vatican investigation had been archived in 2022 and described the possibility that a staff member managing the account had acted while believing they were using a personal account. UOL also reported that Garibotto later deactivated a sensual-content website and livestreamed video games. These are later developments reported by UOL, not part of PerthNow’s 2019 profile.
