Infested is a French spider-centered horror film about an escaped spider infestation spreading through a high-rise and the residents trapped inside. The “Attack the Block, but with killer spiders” comparison comes from io9’s 2023 review headline; it is a useful shorthand for the setting and community under siege, not a claim that the films share the same story or themes.
What is Infested about?
Originally titled Vermines and also released under the alternate title Vermin, the film follows Kaleb, a young man living with his sister in a French apartment block. Kaleb is fascinated by unusual creatures and acquires a spider. After it escapes, the infestation multiplies and spreads through the building, leaving residents caught in the crisis. Why compare it with Attack the Block?
io9 used “Infested Is Attack the Block, But With Killer Spiders” as its review headline. The comparison points to a creature-threat story rooted in a residential community under pressure. The most useful distinction is the balance between setup and spectacle. The review says Infested takes time to establish Kaleb, his relationships, and the building’s residents before the danger escalates. That character groundwork gives the outbreak a human setting, though viewers expecting continuous spider action may find the creatures less prominent than anticipated. [io9, September 24, 2023]

When and where can you watch it?
Infested made its North American debut at Fantastic Fest in 2023. A contemporary io9 review reported that a Shudder release was expected in 2024; that was a release plan reported at the time, not confirmation of current availability.
