A LEGO recreation of the giraffe encounter brings Joel and Ellie’s quiet moment from The Last of Us into a small fan-built scene. The title-matching article describes the recreated moment but does not identify the builder, so its authorship cannot be independently confirmed.
The scene behind the LEGO recreation
In the game, Joel and Ellie encounter giraffes roaming an abandoned city. The moment stands apart from the danger and urgency surrounding their journey: it gives the characters—and the player—a pause to look at a world where wildlife is returning.
On Naughty Dog’s official podcast, animator Almudena Soria explained that the level designer initially presented a sequence with “no combat, no traversal and just giraffes.” The team was skeptical at first. Soria recalled: “Everyone was very skeptical of that working. Cause it’s like, no, no combat? Like nothing? All right.” She said the team came to understand the sequence as a chance for players to rest and take in the overgrown environment and returning wildlife. Listen to Naughty Dog’s podcast.
What is known about the LEGO build
The article matching the title describes the recreation’s emotional staging and visual detail, but it does not name the builder or link to an original post. Its identification as the giraffe encounter is supported by that article; the pictured build’s provenance is not independently established.

What makes the moment work in a small scene
The encounter depends less on action than on contrast: a quiet meeting with wildlife amid a human-made environment reclaimed by nature. For a similar fan build, the giraffe provides an immediate focal point; ruined-city details and greenery can suggest the setting, while minifigure parts can represent Joel and Ellie. Those are practical design choices, not specifications for the unidentified build.
A LEGO giraffe figure—or a set that includes one—is a relevant starting point. The fan builder legols specifically mentioned the Friends giraffe mould. No exact set number, current listing, price, or availability is established here, so check the product’s contents before buying. See the fan builder’s Flickr post.
