Build a recognizable DIY Labubu Halloween costume around two defining details: pointed ears and a toothy grin. Start with clothes you can comfortably wear, then add simple accessories that suggest the character. There is no verified official human costume or measured Gen Z-approved outfit, so treat this as a creative interpretation—not a prescribed look.
What makes a Labubu costume recognizable?
Labubu is an elf character created by artist Kasing Lung, originating in the picture book The Story of Puca, according to POP MART. The Associated Press describes Labubu’s pointed ears and pointy teeth, making those the clearest features to carry into a wearable costume. Fans also use Labubu as a fashion accessory on bags, backpacks, and belts, so a character-themed prop can help signal the reference.
There is no established canonical Halloween outfit, required color palette, or measured Gen Z preference. “Gen Z-approved” is a playful styling brief, not a verified consensus about what young people currently wear.
How to assemble the costume
- Choose a comfortable base outfit. Wear clothes in a color you like; no particular color or garment is established as essential to Labubu. Consider how warm the outfit will be for the event.
- Add pointed ears. A generic pointed-ear costume headband is an accessible DIY option inspired by the character’s documented design. It need not be an official product. When choosing one, check the fit and construction, and make sure it does not block vision or feel uncomfortable.
- Suggest the toothy grin. Use a simple, comfortable visual detail—such as a drawn-on grin or a prop—to evoke Labubu’s pointy teeth. Keep any makeup or prop suitable for the wearer and the event.
- Choose texture only if it works for you. Faux fur or a plush layer can add a creature-like feel, but it is a styling choice, not a documented character requirement. Skip it if the weather is warm or the texture is irritating.
- Add an optional Labubu reference. A genuine collectible can serve as a prop, but it is merchandise rather than a complete costume. POP MART lists THE MONSTERS products, including Labubu, in its official US collection. Its WHY SO SERIOUS Series Labubu Candy Pouch is listed as 19 × 19 × 31 cm (7.48 × 7.48 × 12.2 inches) and polyester except for decorations; product details and availability can change, so check the listing before relying on it.
What to check before wearing or buying accessories
- Comfort and fit: Try on headbands and other accessories before the event, especially if they will be worn for several hours.
- Clear vision and secure parts: Keep the eyes unobstructed and avoid loose pieces that could catch or fall off in a crowded setting. For a child, favor securely attached, comfortable accessories.
- Weather: Choose layers and textures for the actual conditions rather than assuming plush is always practical.
- Listing details: For merchandise or purchased costume pieces, confirm current materials, dimensions, price, delivery timing, and return terms on the seller’s listing.
Why the look fits Labubu’s fashion context
Labubu is not only a character on a shelf: fans have also used the figures as accessories on bags, backpacks, and belts. POP MART head of IP licensing in the Americas Emily Brough described the appeal this way: “The character has evolved into a collectible and style symbol, resonating with fans who connect with its quirky aesthetic and unique backstory.” That supports using a collectible as a styling reference, but it does not establish a particular Halloween look or prove that one outfit is popular with Gen Z.

Those figures describe the company’s broader collectible business, not Halloween costume sales or youth preferences.
