Friday is the clearest default if you want to line up with Spotify’s weekly Release Radar refresh, but that timing does not guarantee more streams, playlist placement, or attention. Choose a date by weighing your audience data, campaign readiness, delivery deadlines, and when you can support the release.
What is the best day to release music?
Friday is a practical choice when platform timing and a coordinated launch matter. Spotify says Release Radar “updates every Friday,” so releasing on Friday aligns with that weekly cadence. The platform’s rules describe eligibility and timing, not a promise that a track will be added or perform better. Spotify’s Release Radar guidance explains the conditions.
A midweek date can be better when your own listener data points to a weekday audience, your team needs time to resolve delivery problems before the weekend, or Friday is a poor day for you to communicate with fans. Tuesday and Wednesday are reasonable options to consider, not proven performance shortcuts. The best date is the one that matches your release’s goal and your ability to execute it.
Should I release music on Friday?
Friday is worth choosing when you can meet the platform lead times and have the campaign ready to support the launch. It can suit a release coordinated with press, radio, or other promotional activity, and it matches Spotify’s weekly Release Radar refresh. But Friday alone does not improve the odds of editorial selection; Spotify’s pitch process is not a placement guarantee.
#1 Best Overall
LANDR reports that Friday had the highest weekday streaming activity in an analysis of its own distribution users, with Tuesday close behind. That is one vendor’s user-base finding, not a universal ranking of release days or evidence that choosing Friday causes better results. Use your own audience analytics where available rather than treating that trend as a rule. LANDR’s analysis and advice describes its scope.
Is Tuesday or Wednesday better for a new single?
Tuesday or Wednesday may suit an artist whose listeners are more active midweek, whose Friday launch would be difficult to manage, or who wants a weekday buffer to catch delivery or metadata issues before the weekend. Industry advice also suggests considering competing releases and calendar events, but those are planning considerations—not quantified guarantees of greater visibility.
Rank #2
A midweek release does not change Spotify’s Friday Release Radar schedule. Choose it because the date fits your audience or campaign better, not because it is known to outperform Friday. The trade-off is straightforward: Friday aligns with Spotify’s cadence; a weekday may better fit your own evidence and operational capacity.
How to choose your release date
- Set the goal. Decide whether the date is meant to support a playlist pitch, a coordinated campaign, fan availability, or your work schedule. A date cannot optimize all of these if they conflict.
- Check your audience data. Where artist analytics provide listening patterns by day and location, look for the behavior of your own listeners. LANDR recommends considering audience patterns, but its broader weekday analysis should not substitute for your own data.
- Allow time for delivery and pitching. Spotify’s current Release Radar support guidance calls for at least seven days’ lead time for both delivery and pitching for first-week eligibility. Spotify for Artists’ current new-release guidance recommends pitching the focus track two weeks before release. Treat these as timing requirements and recommendations, not promises of playlist placement. See Spotify’s Release Radar guidance and Spotify for Artists’ new-release guidance.
- Confirm your artist-page mapping. If you want Apple Music for Artists’ New Release Insights available on release day, Apple advises confirming with your content provider that the music is mapped to the correct artist page at least 10 days before release. Apple’s New Release Insights guidance covers the requirement.
- Choose a date you can support. Make sure you or your team can announce the release, share it with fans, and respond to problems on the day. Check major competing releases and calendar events as context, not as a formula for guaranteed results.
- Review comparable results afterward. Compare the release with your own previous tracks or albums, and examine listener geography and sources where the platforms provide them. Keep the date and campaign context in mind when interpreting changes.
How to measure whether the date worked
Apple Music for Artists says New Release Insights provides same-day data as music reaches Apple Music. Data may take up to eight hours to appear, and reported plays can change after final processing. Do not treat an incomplete first-day view as a final result. Apple’s guidance on New Release Insights explains the feature and its timing.

On Spotify, Release Radar statistics are available in Spotify for Artists when a track appears in the playlist. Compare like with like—such as first-week performance against your own previous releases—and consider audience geography and listening sources where available. A playlist placement study cannot establish that a particular weekday caused placement: the 2021 NBER paper on Spotify playlist rankings examines effects associated with playlist placement, not whether selecting Friday makes placement more likely. The NBER paper addresses a different question than release-day choice.

A simple decision rule
- Choose Friday if Spotify timing is a priority, your pitch and delivery are ready on schedule, and you can actively support the launch.
- Choose Tuesday or Wednesday if your audience data, campaign calendar, or need for weekday troubleshooting makes a midweek date more practical.
- Choose another date if it better fits your documented listener behavior or campaign plan; do not assume that one weekday is best for every artist.
