Does the film say how old Maria is?
The sources cited here do not establish an age stated for Maria, the film character. The historical age of 22 refers to the real Maria at her marriage; it should not be treated as a number the movie gives for its character.
The film was generally based on the first part of Maria’s memoir, but it alters historical events. The U.S. National Archives notes that the real Maria and Georg married in 1927, rather than at the time of the family’s later departure from Austria. The National Archives’ comparison of the movie and the family’s story explains this distinction.
