Wordle #1450: spoiler-light hint
When you don’t want to buy.
A clearer clue
You have to sign and agree to one of these when you’re renting or hiring something, like a car or a house. This clue was published by Kerry Brunskill in PC Gamer’s June 8 guide.
Letter clue
The five-letter answer has a repeated letter: E appears in the second and fifth positions.
How the clues fit the game
Wordle gives you six guesses, each entered as a five-letter word. After each guess, tile colors show what you learned: black means a letter is absent from the answer, yellow means it appears but is in another position, and green means it is correct and in the right position.

For this puzzle, Forbes contributor Erik Kain described narrowing the possibilities to SCALE, LEASE, WHALE, LEAVE, SHALE, or SWALE. That is one writer’s reported solve, not a claim that the sequence is optimal. A general approach is to open with common vowels and consonants without repeating letters, then use later guesses to test letters that have not been ruled out.

LEASE
The answer is corroborated by PC Gamer, Forbes, and Xfire. The New York Times’ live Wordle page did not provide an accessible archive confirmation, so this answer is supported by those published secondary guides rather than an independently accessible official record.
