Joseph Morgan said Sebastian Blood begins as a timid social outcast—the opposite of Klaus Mikaelson. The resemblance is broader: both are supernatural villains, and Sebastian’s story eventually leads toward power. In Titans season four, though, viewers follow Sebastian’s transformation rather than meeting him as an established force.
Why fans compared Sebastian Blood to Klaus
Morgan played Klaus Mikaelson in The Vampire Diaries and The Originals, then joined Titans as Sebastian Blood, the character who becomes Brother Blood. In a GamesRadar/SFX interview, the interviewer raised the fan label “Klaus 2.0.” Morgan’s answer was more nuanced: “It sort of happens naturally, especially where he starts. I knew I wanted to play this guy as an outcast, a guy who has been cast aside by society. That sort of lent itself to someone who is timid, which is the opposite of Klaus.”
That contrast is the clearest answer to the comparison. Morgan acknowledged an eventual shift toward power, but described Sebastian’s starting point as markedly different. “Klaus 2.0” is a label raised in that interview, not evidence that most viewers share the comparison.
How Sebastian’s story differs from Klaus’s
The available interviews support a comparison of Morgan’s choices for Sebastian, not a comprehensive character-by-character account of Klaus. On that basis, the key differences are Sebastian’s initial temperament and the way Titans tells his origin.

Why the origin story matters
Morgan described Sebastian as someone “who initially is quite introverted, who’s never quite found his place in the world.” He called the character’s arc “a journey of the ego” and said he made Sebastian sweet and tender at first so that his development would have somewhere to go.
In a December 2022 interview with ComicBook.com, Morgan also described the adaptation as an origin story that differs somewhat from the comics and animation. He wanted viewers to understand why Sebastian makes his choices, even if they disagreed with those choices, and to see the humanity that persists as he changes. The shift is therefore not simply from weak to powerful: the story asks viewers to watch how the person they first meet develops into the villain.

Titans showrunner Greg Walker described that emphasis in DC’s season-four coverage: “The destination of Brother Blood was less interesting to me than the path of how we get there.” Walker said the show focused on Sebastian’s response to discovering a mission that could make him “potentially all-powerful and all-great.”
How season four shapes the role
Sebastian’s transformation takes place in a season that brings occult, horror, supernatural and dark-magic elements into the conflict. DC’s season-four feature described that territory as unfamiliar to the team. It gives Morgan’s character arc a different context from a simple reprise of another villain role: Sebastian’s rise is tied to this season’s supernatural mission and the choices he makes in response to it.

What “not much different” gets right—and misses
The comparison works at a broad level: Morgan plays two supernatural villain roles, and Sebastian eventually gains power. It misses the distinction Morgan stressed most: Sebastian begins as an outsider who is timid and unsure of his place, and the series makes his transformation part of the story. Morgan did not describe the role as a repeat of Klaus; his comments point instead to a different starting character and a gradual rise.
Morgan also discussed the Brother Blood costume as armor-like, with an ancient quality. He said the production created original lettering designed to resemble blood capillaries—a visual detail that reinforces how the series gives Sebastian’s identity its own presentation.
