Harrison Ford has been involved in two documented aircraft crashes: a helicopter crash in 1999 and a crash-landing in a vintage plane in 2015. The first was not a plane crash in the narrow sense, and a separate 2017 taxiway landing is not part of the crash count.
Ford’s two documented crashes
1999: Helicopter crash during training
On July 16, 1999, Ford was involved in a helicopter crash during a training flight. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) lists the event in its investigation record. The record cited here does not establish enough detail to describe the crash’s cause, sequence or injuries confidently, so those details should not be inferred. NTSB investigation record.

2015: Vintage plane crash-landing
On March 5, 2015, Ford was piloting a vintage aircraft that crash-landed on a California golf course. TIME’s contemporaneous report said he suffered cuts to his head and was taken to a nearby hospital. The cited account does not establish the official probable cause or the aircraft’s exact model. TIME’s 2015 report.
Why the 2017 taxiway landing is not counted
A separately reported 2017 taxiway landing was an aviation incident, not another crash in this count. The NTSB distinguishes accidents from incidents: an occurrence qualifies as an accident when it involves a death or serious injury, or substantial damage to an aircraft. Its aviation database covers civil aviation accidents and selected incidents in the United States, its territories and possessions, and international waters, as well as some foreign investigations in which the NTSB participated.
