What does “canon” mean in a Disney park?
In Star Wars, canon means the franchise’s official fictional continuity. A theme park can place guests inside that world through its setting, characters, props, shops and attractions. Disney describes Galaxy’s Edge as a place where visitors can live their own Star Wars story, but that invitation to role-play does not mean a guest’s ride choices or actions change the shared continuity.
Galaxy’s Edge is built around Batuu, a remote planet, and Black Spire Outpost, its settlement. Disney identifies Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run and Rise of the Resistance as anchor attractions. The land also offers experiences such as building a lightsaber at Savi’s Workshop and creating a droid at Droid Depot.
What era is Galaxy’s Edge set in?
The original sequel-era setting
When Galaxy’s Edge opened, its story was set between The Last Jedi and The Rise of Skywalker. The Resistance and the First Order formed the narrative backdrop, and the land’s details were developed to fit that period in the saga. Disneyland’s 2026 expansion
Disneyland later broadened Galaxy’s Edge to include elements from the original film trilogy. StarWars.com reported that the changes began April 29, 2026, with story details developed alongside Lucasfilm and Walt Disney Imagineering to align with the relevant era. The update is described as an expansion of the land’s time frame—not as the erasure of its original sequel-era setting. Asa Kalama, vice president executive for creative and interactive experiences at Walt Disney Imagineering, described Galaxy’s Edge as “a platform for storytelling, a land that would continue to live and grow and evolve” in StarWars.com’s April 16, 2026 report. Did Disney change the Galaxy’s Edge timeline?
Yes, at Disneyland: the land’s story now encompasses original-trilogy-era elements as well as its sequel-era setting. It is more accurate to call this a deliberate expansion than a retcon. The two eras give the physical land a broader story window; the earlier placement between The Last Jedi and The Rise of Skywalker remains part of its history.

Keep the geography precise. Disney operates Galaxy’s Edge at both Disneyland Resort in California and Walt Disney World Resort in Florida, but the 2026 reports document the timeline expansion at Disneyland. The sources cited here do not confirm that Walt Disney World made the same change. Do not assume the two resort versions currently present the same eras.
Does Star Tours fit the same timeline as Galaxy’s Edge?
Not in the same way. Galaxy’s Edge is a physical setting on Batuu whose story frame has been described in terms of particular saga eras. Star Tours is a variable 3D spaceflight with different destinations, characters and possible encounters. Disney presents it as an unpredictable tour through the Star Wars galaxy, so it is best understood as a saga-spanning ride rather than assigned one fixed point in the chronology. Disney’s 2024 announcement of new Star Tours adventures for Disneyland’s Season of the Force is historical context; it does not establish that the same event offering remains available now.

What does the timeline mean for visitors?
The timeline is context for the place and its stories, not a requirement to treat a visit as a plot-changing event in the films. Guests can take part in the themed experiences—flying the Millennium Falcon, joining the Resistance, building a lightsaber or assembling a droid—without those personal choices becoming new official canon. If planning around attraction restrictions, Disney’s current U.S. park listings give a minimum height of 97 cm for Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run and 102 cm for Rise of the Resistance; check the relevant park listing before a visit because requirements can change.
