Savannah Guthrie returned to the Today anchor desk on April 6, 2026, more than two months after her mother, Nancy Guthrie, was reported missing. Before a return date was announced, Guthrie said she was unsure how to come back to a show known for its lightness—but wanted to try because her colleagues felt like family.
When did Savannah Guthrie return to Today?
Guthrie returned on April 6, 2026. That broadcast followed a March 5 announcement that she intended to come back; NBC had not set a date at the time.
What did Guthrie say about coming back?
During a March 5 visit to the Today studio, Guthrie said, “I have every intention of coming back.” She added: “I don’t know how to come back, but I don’t know how not to. You’re my family. And I would like to try.” CBS News reported her remarks.
In an interview with Hoda Kotb, Guthrie also acknowledged the contrast between her personal circumstances and the program’s tone: “It’s hard to imagine doing it because it’s such a place of joy and lightness.” She said, “I can’t come back and try to be something that I’m not. But I can’t not come back because it’s my family.” The Associated Press reported the interview comments.
