On Dancing with the Stars in October 2024, Stephen Nedoroscik opened an Argentine tango on a pommel horse—the apparatus that had made him a breakout star at the Paris Olympics. Dancing with Rylee Arnold to The White Stripes’ “Seven Nation Army,” he dedicated the performance to men’s gymnastics. It was a callback to his Olympic specialty, not a recreation of his Olympic routine.
What Nedoroscik performed on Dedication Night
For Season 33’s Dedication Night, Nedoroscik and professional partner Rylee Arnold performed an Argentine tango to “Seven Nation Army.” ABC’s official performance announcement identified men’s gymnastics as the dedication. Rather than honor one person, Nedoroscik used the dance to recognize the sport and community that had shaped his career.

The performance began with Nedoroscik on a pommel horse, then moved into tango choreography with Arnold. The apparatus made the Olympic connection immediate, while the rest of the number was a ballroom dance rather than a gymnastics routine.
Why he dedicated the dance to men’s gymnastics
Nedoroscik explained the choice in comments reported by Emily Wyrwa in The Boston Globe. “Gymnastics has given me everything,” he said. He also described the personal and career paths the sport had opened: “It gave me a family at Penn State and it funneled me into the Olympics, so I owe all my success to men’s gymnastics.”

He said he felt particular responsibility to represent the sport well: “There is definitely extra motivation for this dance because I want to make sure I represent men’s gymnastics well.” The dedication was therefore more than a visual nod to the pommel horse; it recognized the broader men’s gymnastics community.
How the Olympic reference connected to Paris
At the 2024 Paris Olympics, Nedoroscik won bronze in two separate events: the men’s team final and the individual pommel horse final. His pommel horse performance helped the U.S. men win their first Olympic team medal since 2008, while the individual final brought him a second bronze. The Associated Press and Los Angeles Times reported on the team breakthrough and his role in it; the Los Angeles Times also covered his individual medal.

That background explains why the pommel horse was such a clear visual shorthand on the show. It pointed to the event through which many viewers had come to know him, but the dance translated that association into a new setting: an Argentine tango with Arnold rather than a competitive gymnastics exercise.
The score and judges’ response
Nedoroscik and Arnold earned 33 out of 40 points. International Gymnast Magazine Online reported that Nedoroscik said he had embraced a more serious character: “What’s feeling different is I really bought into the character and I became this serious man.”
Judge Bruno Tonioli praised the change, saying, “Now you have the determination. You were focused. You’ve changed. You were leading the dance. You were in character. You were making the decision, and we were all there with you.” Judge Carrie Ann Inaba, as quoted by The Boston Globe, said: “That dance had impact. I mean, I will not forget that.” These are comments reproduced in contemporaneous reporting, rather than presented here as a direct transcript.

The routine tied together three distinct elements: Nedoroscik’s Olympic pommel horse identity, a dedication to men’s gymnastics, and the character-driven demands of tango. The opening apparatus made the callback legible without suggesting that the dance duplicated his Olympic set.
