Former cast member Stephanie Matto later said she earned about $1,000–$2,000 per episode. These are reported figures—not a rate confirmed by TLC or a guaranteed amount for every cast member.
What cast members have said they were paid
The figures come from individual accounts and entertainment reporting, not a published TLC pay schedule. They also describe different circumstances—such as pay for an episode a participant appeared in, a Tell All, or an estimated season total—so they should not be treated as directly interchangeable.

| Stephanie Matto, quoted by TV Insider | $1,000 or $1,500 per episode; somewhat more for the Tell All | Matto described this as typical for couples in their first season and estimated about 10–13 episodes in a season. This is her account, not an official rate. |
| Danielle Mullins, as reported by TV Insider | Close to $10,000 for a season | An estimate for a cast member featured in every episode; it is not a standard season payment. |
| Stephanie Matto, in a 2025 interview report by CinemaBlend | About $1,000–$2,000 per episode | Matto described her own earnings, said returning cast members’ rates rose, and believed Pillow Talk paid about $1,500 per episode. These are her statements and belief, not independently verified contract terms. |
| Deavan Clegg, quoted by Showbiz Cheat Sheet | $1,000 for each episode she was featured in; $1,500 for the Tell All | Clegg also said she paid travel, parking, and food costs on many filming days, with some costs sometimes reimbursed. Her experience does not establish a general expense policy. |
| Unnamed source, reported by Women’s Health in 2019 | $500–$1,000 per episode before 2018; $1,000–$1,500 the following year | Historical, unconfirmed reporting. Women’s Health said TLC had not responded to its request to confirm the rates. |
Why a season’s total can vary
An episode rate does not tell you what a participant takes home for a season. Matto estimated that a season might include 10–13 paid episodes, while Clegg described payment for episodes in which she was featured. Someone who appears less often could therefore have a different total from a cast member present throughout the season. The sources do not establish standard episode counts, contract terms, or deductions for all participants.
Matto said returning cast members’ rates went up, but the available accounts do not specify a standard increase or establish that every returning participant receives one. Her estimate about Pillow Talk is likewise her belief about that show, not a confirmed rate for its cast.

Does filming location affect whether both partners are paid?
Cast accounts and entertainment reports describe a difference between the flagship show filmed in the United States and some spinoffs filmed abroad. Matto said that on the U.S.-based flagship, only the U.S. citizen gets paid, while both partners may be paid on shows filmed abroad, including Before the 90 Days and The Other Way. Accounts attributed to Clegg and Mullins similarly describe a foreign partner in the United States not being paid before receiving work authorization, while filming abroad may allow both partners to be paid.
Treat this as a reported production and payment practice, not a legal ruling or a guarantee about any participant’s contract. The cited accounts do not provide the contracts or legal analysis needed to establish a universal rule.

Has TLC confirmed a pay rate?
No official compensation schedule appears on TLC’s show page, which describes the premise and lists episodes. The entertainment coverage cited here also reports that TLC and producer Sharp Entertainment had not disclosed participant pay. As a result, none of the dollar amounts above should be described as TLC-confirmed. The latest pay account in these sources is Matto’s 2025 retrospective; it does not establish what current participants are paid under their contracts.
