King’s official It novel page describes the adults returning to Derry in spring 1985, and TV Guide identifies the novel’s childhood and adult periods as 1958 and 1985. For the films, TV Guide gives the corresponding periods as 1989 and 2016. The two versions keep the same 27-year interval while shifting the dates.
Where Welcome to Derry fits
The first season of Welcome to Derry begins in 1962, 27 years before the first film’s 1989 setting, according to the Television Academy interview. That places the series in relation to the film continuity; it does not make 1962 part of the novel’s 1958/1985 timeline. Warner Bros. Discovery describes the series as based on King’s novel and the two feature films, and announced its HBO Max debut for October 2025 in its pressroom announcement. Streaming availability may vary by region and date.

What “rest” means here
The 27-year figure describes the interval between the story’s featured periods of activity. The cited sources do not establish an exact, independently specified number of years that Pennywise sleeps, so “about every 27 years” is more precise than treating rest as a measured duration.
