How long are Bill and Frank together in the HBO series?
Their relationship spans about 16 years in Season 1, Episode 3, “Long, Long Time.” The Los Angeles Times’ 2023 account describes the episode’s arc as spanning 16 years. The Washington Post called it “nearly two decades,” a compatible rounded description rather than a competing exact count.

The available accounts do not establish the relationship’s start and end dates by month and day, so 16 years should be treated as an approximate span, not an exact anniversary calculation.
Does the game tell the same story?
No. The HBO series substantially expands and changes Bill and Frank’s relationship. In the game, their backstory is briefer and grim: Frank separates from Bill and dies before Joel and Ellie arrive. The roughly 16-year duration belongs to the television adaptation; it should not be attributed to the game.
