Her worry was that her parents’ congregation would watch the show and see the explicit scene.
When did Schafer tell her parents?
Schafer recounted the conversation during an appearance on Alex Cooper’s Call Her Daddy, released August 7, 2024. She said she told her parents after she had booked the role in Euphoria.
What did she tell them about the premiere?
She explained that the first episode included Jules having anal sex with Cal Jacobs, played by Eric Dane, who is 45 in the scene’s description. She also warned them that Jules self-harms later in the episode. The story is about the content Schafer anticipated her parents and their community would see, not a claim that she told them every detail of the plot.
Why did the conversation feel awkward?
Schafer’s concern was that her parents, as church leaders, would have to tell their congregation that their child was appearing on television in a show with that material. She pictured members of the congregation watching the scene and said the prospect felt awkward. Accounts describe the church as relatively relaxed, but the covered anecdote does not establish a specific response from her parents or congregation.

What exactly did Schafer say?
Contemporary coverage of the podcast reports the substance of Schafer’s remarks, but published versions of her wording differ. For that reason, the account is best read as an attributed paraphrase rather than a definitive verbatim transcript. A third-party transcript identifies her father as a pastor and her mother as a youth minister; that detail is transcript-based.
